Hello crafty friends. Donna here, coming to you from sunny Tokyo, where I can hear the neighborhood kids playing downstairs from our apartment. We’re up several floors, so it’s lovely that I can hear them and that it’s warm enough to work in front of the open windows.

It’s release day for the My Monthly Hero (and Superhero) kits from Hero Arts, and I’ve been lucky enough to have a sneak peek into this months’s kit. The theme is Milk It (milk and cookies, and lots of things cow related, hence the title of this post. I have made four cards, and several half-a-cards, as is my usual practice!
Let’s have a look at them. This first card uses a four part stencil ( three of the four were used here, as well as a stamped sentiment with matching dies. Did you know that milk cartons in Japan have a little cut out at the top, so they can be distinguished from juice cartons by the vision impaired. It’s such a good idea. Does it happen in other countries? I’ve never noticed it in Australia. (I’ve included a pic with a bunch of random stuff at the end of this blog post)

Next, here is a sweet die cut card, with some fun cups and straws. Other than the sentiment, the whole card is made with the die cut pieces.

The next card uses the fun cow print stencil in the My Monthly Hero kit, and several of the stamps. I haven’t made a split sentiment in ages, but these sentiments seemed to go perfectly together. Although I’m living in a Tokyo apartment right now, my Australian home is in the middle of one of Australia’s biggest dairy areas, and lots of my friends are involved in the industry in one way or another, so I can see so many possibilities for this set!

The final card proved tricky to photograph. I used the same cow stencil, but this time I mixed a little ink with some glitter paste for some sea green sparkle.

Now for all the random information for anyone that happens to have made it this far!!!
I’ve recently purchased two of Sarah Renee Clark’s Colour Cubes as a reward to myself for finishing my degree. I used one of them to choose the colours for this set of cards, so they would all coordinate. I’m loving experimenting with new colour combinations, but missing some of the inks that I left in Australia! I ended up using the lighter of the two blues a lot more than the dark one, but I think I should have been braver with the colours.

Lastly, here’s a snap of the little milk hack that Japan has for the cartons. Only 100% milk has this little cutout. Isn’t it clever?

That’s all from me today. I’m off for a drink of milk!
Until next time, may you be mooooved in all the right ways!
Blessings
Donna
