Hello crafty friends. I’ve made some cards which, unusually for me, contain no colouring, except that which was done with a blending brush and some inks. All these cards feature the Love Birds die from Paper Rose Studio .
This first card uses the same colours of Distress Inks on both the background and the birds. I first painted a watercolour panel with a rainbow of ink colours, and spattered the same colours onto the panel. I then cut eight birds, and blended Distress Inks onto them, concentrating the ink on the backs and the tails of the birds.
After adhering the panel to a white card, I stuck the birds on with dimensional adhesive. The birds almost fade into the background in the photo, but because they are popped up with foam tape, they stand out just fine in real life.
Next, I made a card using the same birds, as well as the larger of the Scribble Hearts dies to create a background. This die has both an inner ‘scribble’ and an outer layer, and I used both in this instance. I stamped the ‘Celebrate’ sentiment, and clear heat embossed it to make it stand out. This time, I blended a different colour onto the birds’ bellies for a little added interest. The birds are once again popped up with a little foam tape.
Finally, I added another die to this last card, the Picket Fence die, which gave the birds a place to land!
Blue and chocolate brown is one of my favourite colour combinations, and I love how they work together in this card. I have blended three different brown Distress Inks onto the fence to get an ombré effect. (An ombré fence? Why not?)
I have to admit that this is a die that has sat unused in my stash for a few months. Now I’m wondering what took me so long! I’m going to use these cards as inspiration to make more bird cards over the weekend. I think I’m hooked.

Thank you so much! I wish I’d kept better records of what I used! I”m much better at it now, but not so much with the earlier posts.
I can tell you that the very right bird on the rainbow card is Seedless Preserves. It’s a really distincltive colour, and so good for blending with pinks, reds, blues. It’s really useful. I’ve just been swiping a few ink pads, and I’m pretty sure that the second one from the right is shaded lilac. It’s quite a blue purple, rather than red, if you know what I mean. I mix it up a bit when I do rainbows, but I do have a few favourites.- Picked raspberry (pink, but I use that as my red) Ripe Persimon for orange, (or spiced marmalade,) squeezed lemonade for a bright light yellow, Twisted citron for lime green. For teal I use either Mermaid lagoon or peacock feathers. Both are fabulous – it just depends whether you want greeny blue, or bluey green😂. Salty ocean is my favourite clean blue, and it looks like I used it on this card. I hope this helps, and you’ve encouraged me to keep going with keeping good records!
