it’s been too long

Hello crafty friends.

Are you starting to think about Mothers’ Day? I’ve made a card for my mum. I made a card last year too, but the mail had closed between our continents, so it came back to me. Hopefully I’ll have more success this year. Mothers’ Day can be either a celebration or a very lonely time, depending on your circumstances, and if you’re missing your mum, or missing your children this year, my heart goes out to you.

I’ve recently purchased the Paper Rose Jumbo Lowercase Letters dies, and I love how big they are! (Of course, right, they’re called Jumbo!) I love using letters to make up most of a sentiment and then using a picture to fill in one of the letters. I’ve made a video of the making of this card, and in it I’ve put my hand up against the dies, just to show how big they really are!

The background was made using the Hand Stitching 1 embossing folder. I initially thought I’d inkblend first and then run it through my machine, but I put the paper into the folder backwards, and I had indents (also pretty) and I wanted the bumps. So, I ink blended again on the other side, using Pool ink from Paper Rose Studio, and I actually really like the way the little dots stand out when inking after the dimension is added. I just inked the outsides, and left the middle white.

The flower image to replace the u (or the o, depending on where you live!) comes from a stamp set called Hummingbird Garden, which has this lovely open hibiscus bloom. I stamped the image in Memento Tuxedo Black ink, then coloured it with my Copics, before cutting it with the matching dies.

The letters were cut from a piece of polkadot paper from the Farm Girl paper pack, also from Paper Rose. I coloured this paper with the same Copics as I used on the flower. I’ve made another set of cards using this same paper Pack here, if you’re interested. They’re quite different to this one!

There are lots of sentiments that I could have put on this card, but in the end, the fact that the current world situation has kept us on two separate continents for over a year made this one the winner. It comes from the Big Black and White Sentiment Sheets. The final touch were some clear crystals.

I hope that you have enjoyed this card, and are inspired to make a card with ‘missing’ letters too! Until next time, stay safe my friends. Look after each other.

Blessings,

Donna
