Birthday hibiscus

Hello crafty friends. I have another card with video for you today. I’m slowly getting my video act together in a new country without my usual equipment. It mostly relies on being next to a window and waiting for a cloudy morning to film! Today is sunny, so I’m editing and blogging. (In between running around the house – my husband now has a Fitbit too, and the competition is real!)

Today’s card is a very simple one, because the Sketchy Hibiscus Stamp from Paper Rose Studio is doing all the heavy lifting! I’ve made a video of the colouring process, so if you’d rather watch a video than read a blog, you can watch it below.

To make this card, I first stamped the image using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink, which is Alcohol marker friendly. I used my MISTI Stamping PlatformI because I wanted the option to stamp more than once to get all the details of the image stamped. I then coloured the hibiscus flowers with my Copic markers. I have a very small selection of markers here in Australia – most of them are in Japan still, so used several techniques to stretch the colours that I could make with them. If you too have only a small number, or are thinking about whether to start a small collection, there are a couple of ideas in the video that may be helpful to you.

The sentiment comes from Paper Rose’s All Occasions Sentiment Strips , and once I’d trimmed the sentiment of my choice, I drew around the edges with my Memento Tuxedo Black marker. This hides the white core, and makes the sentiment look more professional.

Once the image was coloured, I grabbed a Paper Rose White card base. These are Australian sized, so I used the card size as my starting size for trimming my layers, cutting the orange layer of card to the same size, and making the floral panel about 2mm smaller on each edge.

That completed today’s card. If you’ve enjoyed this, and would like to see more, you can visit either my Instagram feed, which has a lot more cards, or my YouTube channel, which has a lot more detail on the cards that are there. Until next time, stay safe and look after each other.

Blessings,

Donna
