Underwater Tulips(!!!)

Hello crafty friends. I hope you are staying safe and sane. I have a bit of fun for you today, to celebrate making it to the end of the week. I’ve made an underwater scene, using just one stamp set – tulips!

The stamp set I used is Exotic Tulips from Altenew, and I’m sure it’s been designed to make glorious, elegant floral cards. I’ve made a few of those myself with the set, and I love it. But not today!

I started by using just one of the leaf shapes, and stamping both layers in a repeating pattern to make the waves. I stamped the background stamp in Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide, and then went over the top with the contrasting stamp in Altenew’s Dusk. I used my MISTI for as much of the pattern as I could fit, moving the paper across and up after each stamping using the grid lines on the MISTI.

The Jellyfish was made by using two layers of an open tulip in Cloudy Sky and Nimbus inks. The tentacles were made by cutting out the thin stem from the tulip stamp set, and quickly swiping it with the Nimbus stamp pad. The small orange fish are the tulip bud. The colours I used here are Altenew’s Warm Sunshine and Orange Cream. I drew the eyes on by hand with a black pen. The backs of the fish weren’t very fishlike, so I covered them by using more tulip leaves to make seaweed, using Parrot ink.

Lastly the sentiment and black (upside down, I have now realised!!!) fish are from a set called Mermaid Magic from Paper Rose Studio.

The final touch was a coating of shimmer with my Wink of Stella marker. I used a mix of glue and foam tape to adhere everything to the panel, which I cut out with Simon Says Stamp’s Wonky Stitched Rectantles die.

I hope you’ve had a bit of a giggle and enjoyed this card. I really enjoy playing with stamps and turning them into something else, often jellyfish!

I look forward to getting crafty again really soon. If you’d like to see more of my cards, there are plenty here on my Instagram.

Until next time, may you have lots of opportunities to play and laugh.

Blessings,

Donna
