Hello crafty friends. How are you doing? I’m sitting here in Tokyo with the windows open, soaking up the spring weather. We have lots of tulips blooming here, and I’m really enjoying them.

Every so often, I take myself in hand and try to take a bunch of colour and busyness off my cards. This month, I’m doing it again. These tulips from Paper Rose were my flower of choice for the strong vertical lines that I wanted for today’s card.

I stamped the tulips using Versamark ink, and then heat embossed them in Rose Gold embossing powder from Altenew. I cut them using the matching Tulip dies and coloured them VERY simply with my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers, layering the watercolour markers to get depth of colour. You can see the process in the video below.

I used the same Rose Gold embossing powder on the card base. This time I used a pen that is filled with embossing ink called an Emboss-It pen to draw some lines on the card base. I did these freehand, varying how hard I pressed, and allowing some lines to run wonky and to skip in places, so that it would look more organic.

I popped the tulips and the sentiment (which comes from the same stamp set) up with foam tape. I use Press’n Seal when I want to lay out an arrangement on a card and keep it there. Once I have the arrangement I want, I lay down the Press’n Seal, and press it onto the the background, so that I can open and close it like a hinge to keep my pieces in place.
