Stretch your stencils – spot the Christmas supplies!

Hello crafty friends. I have a card to share with you today that has some hidden Christmas images. Can you spot them? I love bike riding! It was one of my favourite things about being in Japan and not having a car.

I started the card by making the background. I first blended the grass and sky, by dividing the panel up with washi tape and then blending with Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink and Altenew Ink in Bamboo above and below the line. I then used the Christmas Tree Builder stencil from Paper Rose Studio to blend some pine trees in the background. I masked off the parts of the tree that I didn’t want on the card, making the two trees different heights.

The main image for today’s card comes from a sweet new stamp from Paper Rose Studio called Floral Bike. It is a very detailed image, which calls for a different strategy for colouring it. I stamped the bicycle in Memento Tuxedo Black ink, which is Copic friendly. I used my MISTI stamping tool, because I wanted the chance to rest amp if I missed any of the fine details. I then coloured each of the parts of the stamp in a single colour of Copic marker. Because there is no blending, any kind of marker would be suitable, even cheap textas. I got the depth and shadows by going over these flowers with deep coloured pencils. I shaded a darker area, then blended out to nothing on each flower.

I decided that the ground needed a little something, so I once again reached for the same Christmas Tree Builder stencil. This time I used the baubles as tufts of grass! I also took a blue marker (no reason for the blue, it was the first one my hand landed on) and drew in some shadows on the grass to ‘ground’ the bike.

The sentiment is from a new Paper Rose Studio sentiment stamp set called All the Thanks Mini, and I like the way the split sentiment makes the eye travel around the card.

That’s all for today folks. I hope that you’re staying safe and well, and that you have plenty to be thankful for. If you’ve enjoyed this card, and would like to see more, you are more than welcome at either my Instagram account here, where I share all my makes, or on my YouTube channel, which has fewer cards, but with more detail. Have a super day my friends!

Until next time,

Blessings,

Donna
