Stretch your Stencils

Don’t actually stretch them, my friends. Bad idea, that!

But I want to share with you a couple of ways to use some Christmas stencils to make four cards. One of these stencils was used to get a positive image and one a negative image from the stamp. These techniques will work for any stencil.

For this first set of cards, I used the Christmas Baubles stencil, and masked off individual baubles, and used three different ink colours to colour them. I chose Paper Rose Berry, Altenew Parrot and Candied Apple Distress Ink. I like mixing other colours like teal and pink with the traditional red and green.

The second panel was made by first pressing my Versamark clear ink through the holes in the Peace Love Joy Stencil, and heat embossing the panel with white embossing powder. This gave me a white resist area that would not take any ink that I blended on. I used the same three colours for this panel.

Because the stencils are 6″ x 6, I decided to cut each of the panel in half to make two cards of each design. I backed the cut panel with some bright card from the Paper Rose Brights coloured cardstock and then started on the sentiments.Three of the sentiments come from the Crisp Christmas Sentiments pack. These are soooo convenient, and they have sentiments in different sizes. The other card has a stamped sentiment from a set called (predictably) Christmas Sentiments.

The sentiments were sometimes placed strategically to either let more of the green show through, or to hide any glitches in my ink blending.

It’s always good to have ways of making multiple cards at Christmas, when more cards are needed than usual. I hope this set has given some ideas for how to stretch your own supplies.

Until next time, have a great day, wherever you are,

Blessings,

Donna
