Butterfly Sympathy Card

Hello friends. Sympathy cards are never easy to make, so I prefer to make them at times when I don’t have need for them, and have one or two on hand. Today’s hero is the Helena Floral Butterfly Stamp from Paper Rose Studio, and I kept the stamp in front of me at all times while I was making the card, to use as reference.

Today’s card is made in layers. First, ink blending. I used Grape, Bubblegum and Pool inks from Paper Rose Studio, and blended them onto a card front. I then spattered the card with inks from the same ink pads mixed with water, as well as some darker colours, which I used some Altenew Brush markers to make, blending the pens until the shades were right.

I stamped the butterfly image in a pale ink first. I wanted the colour to disappear when I heat embossed it later, but in hindsight I could have used a slightly darker colour, as I did lose sight of the image a couple of times! The reason for this two step process for the colouring is that I’ve heard that embossing powder can damage your Copics, and much as I like to experiment, those babies are expensive!!!

I’ve made a video of the process which you can see below. Feel free to pop over to my YouTube Channel here and subscribe if you’d like to see more videos.

Once I had the image stamped, I chose slightly darker Copics than the blended colours, and coloured the gaps in the image. On the flower side, the lines are thinner and I needed to take more care, but on the other side, I was just colouring very loosely, as I knew that the embossing powder would hide a multitude of sins!

I then popped the panel back into my MISTI, right where it was before, and re stamped, this time with Versamark clear ink, then I sprinkled on and heat set some Gold embossing powder.

Finally, I mounted the panel onto a piece of Gold Shimmer Cardstock, and added some sentiments from the So Extra Black sentiment pack from Paper Rose Studio. I hope that this card will bring some comfort when the time comes to use it.

Until next time, may all your cards be for happy occasions,

Blessings,
Donna
