getting bold! -all the colour, without any colouring

Hello crafty friends. Donne here, back with another set of cards. I have some deep rich teals to share with you today. The fun thing about these cards is that I didn’t do any actual ‘colouring’ although there’s clearly a lot of colour here.

To make the flowers and leaves I did a bunch of messing around with watercolour inks, and made myself a piece of coloured paper. All the inks I used are shown below in the supplies list.

I then stamped Bold Leaves 1 Stamp and Bold Flowers 2 Stamp, both from Paper Rose Studio, with Versamark clear ink, and heat embossed them in using Hero Arts white embossing powder. I then cut these out with my scissors, leaving a small border around the outside. You can see the whole cardmaking process in the video below, warts and all, and including a little life philosophy from me, as I make decisions about what to include in my videos.

(My voice is still a little scratchy in the video, as I’m recovering from that virus!! But I’m super healthy otherwise). On to the backgrounds! Firstly the slimline card. I started with a piece of deep teal card, then ink blended some Distress ink over it in Blue and Teal. I then spattered this panel with water, the blue and teal inks mixed with water, and some Liquid Sparkle from Paper Rose Studio, also mixed with water. You can see the background clearly on the photo below.

I cut this panel with a slimline stitched rectangle die, and added it to a premade slimline card base. These card bases come with matching envelopes, so I took the opportunity to use and extra strip of the background panel to add an accent to the back flap of the envelope. It’s just a little touch, but it makes it feel more like a set. You can see it on the left of the photo below.

For the second card, I chose a simpler way to make the background. I smooshed some of the inks onto a piece of plastic, added a few drops of Liquid Sparkle to each ink and spattered the panel with this, as well as some Liquid Sparkle on its own. The result is not quite as swirly and yummy as the first card, but it was much quicker and simpler to make, and sometimes simple is what you need. Once again I cut the panel using a Stitched Rectangle Die, Australian sized this time, so that the shape would match with the frames that I cut from the Lots and Lots of Rectangles dies. Unfortunately these are sold out in Australia, but at the time of writing this, they’re still available in the USA.

The flowers and leaves are popped up with foam tape, but everything else is glued down flat. I hope you’ve enjoyed these cards, and looking at different ways to add colour to your cards. Until next time, may you have time for the things you love.

Blessings,

Donna
