Hello crafty friends. I have a set of two cards today, using one of the butterflies from the Altenew set called Botanical Garden. This set has been in my stash for years, and I’ve made so many cards with the flowers in the set, but I don’t think I’ve ever used the butterflies!!

Both cards use the same basic technique but for very different looks. For this first card, I used the new Distress Oxide in Speckled Egg. When I saw that Ranger was bringing out a new ink colour, I decided that I had enough inks, and that I would leave it be. The only colours that would tempt me were a rich creamy buttery yellow, or, you guessed it, duck egg blue/green. So here I am, stamping in this beautiful colour!

For the sentiment, I used the new-to-me Sakura flower stamp set. Living in Japan, and teaching cardmaking here, I decided that this was absolutely necessary! I am yet to play with the flowers in the set, but this sentiment was perfect for the card. If you’re wondering which card stocks would match this colour ink, I found that Lawn Fawn Sage Green was a perfect match. I cut a circle from the centre of the Sage Green panel, where it would be hidden, and stamped the sentiment onto it with Versamark Ink. I then heat embossed the words with Hero Arts White Embossing Powder.

For the second card, I went a much more graphic route. I stamped the butterflies in Versafine Onyx Black ink, which is super black, and then added a strip of vellum so that the sentiment wouldn’t look too busy. My favourite way to attach vellum is to wrap it around the panel, so that no adhesive shows.

I die cut the word happy (from this Happy die) from the centre of the purple panel that I backed the card with, and laid this onto the vellum strip. I often sneak my sentiments from the centre of the panel so that I can save paper. The word birthday comes from the Halftone Happy stamp set, also from Altenew.
