Just a Card to say You’re Awesome

Hello crafty friends. It’s Donna here with a soft and elegant card for you today. The rainy season has officially ended and we’re now heading into the serious sticky heat (NOT my favourite!) I’m so grateful for airconditioning!

I have used the Paper Rose Tulips stamp set and matching tulip dies for this card. I stamped the tulips onto two pieces of Fabriano Artistico extra white watercolour paper. I often find that watercolour paper is too cream coloured for my purposes, and this one, while not bright white, is excellent quality, and is white enough to play nicely with my background white papers.

I stamped the tulips with Versamark clear ink, and then heat embossed them with Hero Arts white embossing powder. Once the powder was heat set, I got to watercoloring. For the tulip flowers, I mixed up a soft warm yellow and a dusky pink using the leftovers on my paint palette. I first painted the yellow, and let it dry. I then went over the top with the pink, letting some of the yellow remain visible for contrast. I painted the same yellow on the leaves, and then went over the top with a mix of greens, also the dregs from my paint palette.

Once the paint was all dry, I cut one of the panels using this stitched rectangle die. I used the matching tulip dies to cut out the tulips from the other piece of watercolour paper. I then played around with the placement of the cut tulips, layering these on top of the other panel until I was happy with how it looked Next I used scraps of paper left over from cutting the tulips out to add behind the flowers to pop them up and make my card dimensional. Two or three layers gives the same height as foam tape, and it’s a great way to minimize your waste and your resource usage.

The sentiment comes from the fabulous Black and White Sentiments pack from Paper Rose. It has a bunch of sentiments with either black or white backgrounds in a variety of fonts. I’m reaching for these sentiments more and more these days. The background pink is something that I picked up in Tokyo, from an art supply store, so I’m sorry that I can’t share that one with you.

I hope that this soft card brings you joy. I really enjoyed colouring it, and I find these colours so restful. Until next time, may your days be peaceful.

Blessings,

Donna
