Hello crafty friends. I have another card for you that uses patterned paper, but this time I have combined it with one of my first loves in cardmaking – watercolour.

The paper pack is from Paper Rose Studio, and it is called Snuggly Christmas, and it features the most gorgeous blue and silver colour scheme. I’m going to make lots of non Christmas cards with this one.

For today’s cards I wanted to soften the look of the fussy cut images, so I created watercolour backgrounds with lots of shimmer and movement. The colours I used are a metallic silver paint that I purchased here in Japan, and a mix of Payne’s grey and Aquamarine blue for the blue colour.
I have made a short process video for this set of cards and you can see it here.
I made the painted baubles by first painting them with very pale colour (clear water would be great too, but I like to see where I’ve been) and then dropping in dark colour and letting it spread naturally. And then of course I tried to muck with nature and control it some too. I then spattered the panel with the same colours. On one card, the paint was still wet, and the spatters spread and were subtle within the baubles; on the other where the paint was dry the spatter is more distinct. Your choice! I like both.
I cut the panels out with a Stitched Rectangles die, then drew the strings and the tops of the painted baubles on with a black marker. The fussy cut pieces were popped up with foam tape and the whole panel was mounted onto grey card.
The sentiments come from two different sets. One is from the Crisp Christmas sentiments (try saying that three times fast!) and the other (the grey one) is from the Christmas Joy paper pack, which I used to make 35 cards in an earlier post.

These were fun to make, and I like the soft background that the watercolour has produced. If you have enjoyed these cards, and would like to see more, I put all my completed projects up on my Instagram feed. Until next time,
Blessings,
Donna
