Hello dear reader-friends.

Firstly, the weather, because after all, I live in Japan, and that’s what you talk about! IT SNOWED this week. I was at a friend’s house, and got to jump on my bicycle and ride home in the flakes. So exciting for this Australian! Oh, and I made a card too! (we all know that’s why we’re really here)

The stamp is the hero of this card. It is called Big Bloom, and it’s from Paper Rose Studio. I stamped it with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink, which doesn’t smudge when you Copic colour over it.

Do you keep up with the Pantone colour(s) of the year? I find it fascinating that someone can decide on such a thing, but I like looking at it anyway. This years colour was a pair of colours – yellow and grey and I’ve chosen them as inspiration for my colour scheme. I don’t know why I wrote “inspiration for” there. They ARE my colour scheme. The markers that I had in my collection that were closest to the Pantone colours were Copic C5 and Copic Y15, and then I worked my way out from there.

I used a C2 marker to create the shadows in the yellow petals. I didn’t want to add a different shade. On other cards, I might use an orange or a brown for the shadows, but not this time. I used the grey markers to also create drop shadow around my image, and also to add in the ‘ledge’ that the flowers are sitting on.

There aren’t any fancy tricks or techniques in this card – just straight Copic colouring. I’m going back to my first loves at the moment and enjoying the slower process of colouring images. How about you? Any changes or tweaks for 2021?
