leaf window card

Hello crafty friends. It’s been a BIG week this week! I was lucky enough do be doing a demo at Jenn Shurkus’s Crop on the Cape over the weekend. I really enjoyed teaching again, and Jenn put on an amazing event, but the catch? My class started at midnight Tokyo time!!! I’m just about recovered!

Today’s card uses both watercolours and Copics – one of my favourite combinations. I started by stamping one of the leaf images from the Lots of Leaves stamp set from Paper Rose Studio onto Neenah Solar White (Classic Crest) paper with Memento Tuxedo black ink. I coloured each of the leaves in a different colour, and then cut them out with the matching dies. I used a different colour for each leaf. The colours are all marked in the video, which you can see below.

I then made background panel for each of the leaves using my watercolor paints. I’ve had quite a few people ask me about colour mixing and how to get the correct shade, so, when I made the video for this card, I’ve kept all this information in, as I have a system that helps me get straight to the colour I want fairly quickly.

I use mostly Daniel Smith Watercolours, and have cool and warm tones of the primary colors, similar to this set, although they can be purchased separately. It’s amazing how many colours can be easily made using even just two of the colours in the set.

The window frames were made using the Slimline Card Creator 1 Rectangles die from Paper Rose Studio. This die was actually the inspiration for the card, even though it only plays a supporting role! As always, there was plenty of foam tape involved!

Once I was done, I had one panel left over, so I made this into a card too, using the leftover matching watercolour paint on the palette. This simple card was a good way to use every bit of the work that I’d done.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed these cards, and that you get a chance to pop over to watch the YouTube video. You can also see more of my cards on my Instagram feed here.

Until next time,

Blessings,

Donna
