Hi crafty friends. The working title for this blog post is Hayley’s Bouquet and the background that had to be beaten into submission! It took a lot of layers to get to what I was aiming for!

This card uses a stamp called Hayley’s Bouquet, which is a lovely size for cards, allowing some background to still shine through. I like stamps with very thin lines for Copic colouring. The lines keep me in check without taking over the image. I coloured this stamp in an analogous mix of blues to yellows, and kept the background in the same colour scheme. When colouring with Copics markers, I always stamp in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. It dries fast, and doesn’t smudge at all. Once everything was coloured, I cut the image out with scissors.

The background uses a piece of watercolour paper. I ran this through my die cutting machine with a die called Lots and Lots of Rectangles, and an embossing mat so that the die would just leave an impression, rather than cutting right through. I then added some watercolour paint and some gold spatter. When this didn’t give me the look I was after, I lightly inked up the die with some gold pigment ink, and carefully replaced the die before running it through with the embossing mat for a second time. That gave me the definition I was looking for in the alleys of the die.

The sentiment for this card comes from a printed set of sentiments called All Occasions Sentiment Strips. I reach for this one a lot, because the sentiments are really varied, and very useful basics.
