bright birthday cards

Hi crafty friends. I’m popping in with a pair of fun cards just before the weekend. These cards are really simple to make, and would be great TV colouring, if that’s your jam.

The first step is to either find a brightly coloured piece of patterned paper, or do as I did, and make your own by ink blending over a piece of white card with your brightest inks. The inks I used for these cards are linked below. I used the same inks for both, which shows what a difference the paper surface can make.

Once I had my coloured panels, I ran them through my die cutting machine with the 3D Balloons Embossing Folder from Paper Rose Studio. For the first card, I then took a black Copic liner and coloured everything that wasn’t a balloon black. For the card below, the process was the same, but I used Daisy White Shimmer cardstock from Paper Rose, which has a very non-porous surface. This meant two things. Firstly, the colours were not as vibrant, and secondly, I could colour the not-balloons with a Copic marker, because the marker wouldn’t sink into the card and bleed.

The sentiments come from one of the 12 x 12 papers in the Darling Dahlias paper pack. I thought the big sentiments and the gold shine went will with the balloons. These cards were really easy to make, and although colouring around the balloons takes a little time, it needs no blending or special colouring skills.

I hope you like this fun pop of colour for your Friday! Until next time, stay safe and stay crafty.

Blessings

Donna

    • The difference in paper was so big that I almost didn’t add the lighter card. But I thought it was a good idea to show the differences, rather than just one card that was my favourite!
