Three for one – ideas for patterned papers and cutouts

Hello crafty friends. I have a set of three cards to share with you today, using just a tiny fraction of the Portraits in Bloom collection from Paper Rose Studio. I’m on summer break at the moment, and am typing this between a lovely week long trip around northern Honshu in Japan, and a few weeks back in Australia visiting family and friends.

The portraits in bloom images are a mix of only world Artsy images, many of which are in frames, and some more whimsical and nature elements. I have used a range of them today for these three cards. It all started with a quilting block…

This block is called attic windows, and I wanted to try to recreate the windows with paper. In the case of the quilt, each part of the block is cut and pieced separately, but I took some shortcuts along the way. You can see my piecing strategy below.

I started with a piece of cream cardstock. I then added 5mm dark brown borders. I then measured the resulting squares, and cut three rectangles of the craft coloured cardstock, which I cut in half diagonally to fill the squares. The small triangles of this cardstock are just so that the patterned paper doesn’t sag on the top left. Finally I stuck the patterned paper, (which I had sliced into 6) onto each window, matching up the design. I got this from the 12 x 12 papers in the Portraits in bloom collection, but there were papers in the 6 x 6 size that would also do the same job. Or, any paper you wish really!

Next, I added a whole lot of banners and a whole lot of texture to make the second card. The papers and images are all from Portraits in Bloom, and the 3D embossing folders are Tufted Elegance, and Leafy Garden, both from Paper Rose Studio.

Finally, I made a very simple card, using the Heart Circle Die for a tone on tone background, and added one of the framed artworks, which are a defining feature of this collection, as well as a sentiment from the embossed diecuts.

I hope you enjoy these cards with the whimsical papers. I’m colouring up a storm for my next cards!

Until next time, may your days be full of whimsy.

Blessings,

Donna
